National Chairman of the APP, Barr Uchenna Nnadi
By CHARLES IWUOHA
The National leadership of Action People's Party (APP) has formally constituted a four-man Electoral Committee to oversee its forthcoming congresses in Imo State, signalling intensified preparations for the 2027 general elections.
In a letter of appointment dated Monday, 20th April, 2026, and addressed to the Imo State Chairman, the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party announced the panel barely 48 hours before the congresses scheduled to commence from Tuesday, 22nd April, through Sunday, 26th April, 2026, at ward, local government and state levels.
The committee is expected to conduct a credible, transparent and inclusive process that will produce new party executives across the state, further strengthening the APP’s grassroots structures ahead of next year’s polls.
Heading the panel as Chairman is Okenze Blyden Amajirionwu, a former member of the Imo State House of Assembly, who represented Ngor Okpala Constituency.
Other members of the electoral panel are Hon. Michael Crown Njoku, Chief Nwaodu Ezenwa C., and Hon. Chinaka Ikechukwu C.
The letter, signed by the National Chairman, Barr. Uchenna Nnadi, and National Secretary, Abu Ibrahim Bossan, directed the Imo State Chapter to accord the committee members all necessary support and cooperation to enable them discharge their assignment effectively.
This latest move according to the statement, comes on the heels of the party’s aggressive membership registration and mobilisation exercise across the 305 wards in Imo State.
It also follows the earlier dissolution of the previous state executive and the appointment of an interim caretaker committee led by Hon. Ernest Njesi as Interim Chairman.
Party leaders believe the congresses will consolidate the APP’s growing presence in the state and produce a unified, people-oriented leadership capable of offering Ndi Imo a credible alternative platform in 2027.
Stakeholders have welcomed the appointment of the electoral panel, describing it as a clear demonstration of the NWC’s commitment to internal democracy and its determination to reposition the APP as a formidable force in Imo politics.
With the congresses set to kick off this week, political observers are watching closely to see how the process unfolds and its potential impact on the emerging political realignments in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship and legislative elections.
The development further underscores the APP’s resolve to build strong structures at all levels, even as it continues to assert its readiness to contest and win elections in Imo State.
