Former Senator Shehu Sani
A former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani, has taken to X handle to criticise what he described as the growing passivity of opposition lawmakers in Nigeria’s National Assembly, particularly on key national issues such as borrowing, insecurity, and electoral leadership.
In the post, Sani argued that many Nigerians who frequently expressed anger over governance issues online were often not directing the same pressure toward their elected representatives.
He questioned why constituents continued to defend their lawmakers in comment sections despite what he described as their silence on critical national debates.
According to him, opposition senators in particular have failed to take strong positions on major national concerns, including the proposed $6 billion loan, rising insecurity across the country, and calls for accountability within the electoral system.
He wrote: “Your opposition Senator doesn’t have the courage to stand up in the chamber and oppose the $6billion loan. Your opposition Senator doesn’t have the courage to stand up in the Chamber and speak about insecurity.
‘’Your opposition Senator doesn’t have the courage to stand up in the Chambers and call for the resignation of the INEC chairman.
“And you are not confronting your Senator, rather you are under his comment section praising him and you are diverting you’re anger to others. When will you stop deceiving yourself or when will you free yourself from deception?” (AriseNews TV)
