The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Osun, Bola Oyebamiji, has pledged to uphold public trust and deliver good governance if elected on Aug. 15.
Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO, made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Ooni of Ife, Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at his palace in Ile-Ife, Osun.
He sought royal blessings ahead of the start of his campaign, according to a statement issued on Tuesday by his media adviser, Dr Olawale Tijani.
Oyebamiji commended the traditional ruler for his steadfast commitment to promoting Yoruba unity and preserving cultural heritage across the region.
“We are here to seek your royal blessings and prayers as we prepare to begin our campaign.
“Ile-Ife remains the source of our tradition, and its support is vital.
“I will not betray the trust of the people and will work tirelessly for the progress of Ife and Osun State,” he said.
He said the visit followed advice from President Bola Tinubu, who urged him to seek traditional blessings before launching his campaign.
According to Oyebamiji, the President highlighted Ile-Ife’s historical significance as the cradle of Yoruba civilisation.
He added that past leaders, including Obafemi Awolowo, drew strength and success from ancestral blessings received in the ancient city.
“I informed Mr President of my intention to visit your palace, and he strongly advised me. Ancestral blessings from this ancient throne are important,” he said.
Reaffirming his commitment, he assured residents that his administration would prioritise development and remain accountable.
In his response, the Ooni commended Oyebamiji for humility, discipline and respect for traditional institutions.
He described these qualities as essential for effective leadership and public service.
The traditional ruler stressed that leadership is a call to service and sacrifice, urging political actors to embrace unity and avoid division.
He also called for reconciliation among aggrieved party members, noting that peace and cohesion are critical for progress.
While reaffirming neutrality, the Ooni emphasised the need for harmony across political parties.
“An Oba belongs to all and must remain above politics. Unity is key, and grievances must be resolved through dialogue.
“After receiving blessings, it is important to justify them with good deeds,” Ogunwusi advised.
The Ooni offered prayers for Oyebamiji, seeking divine guidance, wisdom and success ahead of the governorship election.
Oyebamiji was accompanied by his running mate, Kayode Adereti, Osun APC Chairman, Tajudeen Lawal, and other party leaders.
The delegation was received alongside the Alapomu of Apomu, Oba Kayode Adenekan Afolabi, and other dignitaries. (NAN)
