Adewale Giwa
The Senior Pastor of The Second Coming of Christ’s Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has called on the church to awaken from its slumber and fulfill its divine purpose.
In a sermon delivered to his congregation in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Pastor Giwa expressed concern over the growing disunity within the church and the diminishing spiritual power it once embodied.
“The Lord has sent me to tell the church to wake up from its slumber and stand firm in the faith,” Giwa declared, drawing from Romans 13:11. “Unbelievers now mock the church because its strength and power are gradually fading away.”
He lamented that the love of God is waning, while materialism, arguments, and criticisms have taken precedence within the church. “Let us return to the days when genuine miracles occurred, not the stage-managed performances we see today,” he urged.
Pastor Giwa emphasized the church’s current inability to perform true miracles, attributing it to a lack of unity. “Wake up from your slumber and proclaim the true gospel of Christ,” he admonished. “Who says the church does not have the power to heal the sick or move mountains? The power is still there, but the lack of unity hinders its manifestation.”
Citing Revelation 3:3, he reminded believers of their salvation and the need to remain steadfast, as “Jesus will come like a thief in the night.” He reflected on past events, including a united church effort against a tyrannical military ruler in Nigeria, which he credited with divine intervention.
He also referenced the Book of Acts, highlighting how Peter and John healed a lame man in the name of Jesus Christ, despite opposition from the religious authorities. “The early church demonstrated the power of unity, and the Bible tells us that when they prayed together, the place where they were assembled shook.”
Pastor Giwa challenged believers to evaluate their love for one another and avoid divisive arguments. “In 2 Timothy 2:23-24, Apostle Paul warns against foolish arguments that lead to quarrels,” he noted. “Unity was the strength behind the building of the Tower of Babel, as the Bible shows. Without unity, nothing significant can be achieved.”
He concluded by urging the church to rediscover its unity to restore its glory. “Let us stand as one body in Christ, for only then can we truly fulfill our purpose and bring back the power of the church.” (Vanguard)
