Anambra Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha Mba

The Anambra State Government on Wednesday announced Saturday, 11th July 2026 as the day for this year’s Olympic Day Walk in Awka, the state capital.
The press release which was signed by the state Commissioner for Youth Development, Mr. Patrick Agha Mba, and made available to the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, (SWAN)Anambra chapter said that the Olympic Day Run is centered on the theme “Let’s Move.”
He said that the event will kick off from the state radio and television station office, ABS at 7:00am and terminate at the Awka City Stadium.
The Commissioner explained that Olympic Day is celebrated globally to commemorate the founding of the International Olympic Committee on 23rd June 1894.
He said: "The event promotes the Olympic values of Move, Learn, and Discover, while encouraging physical fitness, healthy living, and community participation across age, gender and ability.”
“Activities lined up for the Anambra edition include a 2km–5km community fun walk, cultural displays, fitness activities, and interactive sessions with distinguished Olympians and other sports personalities.”
Mba further said that the Ministry is organizing the event to promote grassroots sports development and healthy living in the state, even as he called on SWAN and others to attend.
He also noted that the participation of stakeholders and residents in the walk will contribute significantly to the success of the program.
Participants are expected to arrive the start off venue by 6:30 a.m.
