Governor Abdullahi Sule is facing criticism over his reported early endorsement of Senator Ahmed Wadada for the 2027 governorship race in Nasarawa State.

Former governor Tanko Al-Makura faulted the move, describing it as premature and a potential breach of established political processes.

Speaking during a televised interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today, Al-Makura said while he holds no personal objection to Wadada or any other aspirant, succession discussions must follow due procedure.

“We don’t have any problem with Wadada or any other aspirant, but let these procedures arrive one after the other before you can call someone your successor, Al-Makura said.

He cautioned against presenting any aspirant to the president at this stage, stressing that such actions could undermine internal party mechanisms and create unnecessary tensions ahead of the election cycle.

“For the governor to take anybody, not even Wadada, to Mr President at this point in time is a little too hasty,” Al-Makura said, adding that the process of selecting a successor should be allowed to evolve organically.

The former governor emphasised the importance of maintaining fairness and transparency, warning that bypassing due process could weaken party unity and credibility in the build-up to the 2027 polls.

The development has sparked debate within political circles in Nasarawa, with stakeholders divided over the timing and implications of early endorsements in the state’s succession politics.
