In a bid to give back to society, in the spirit of the Yuletide, the Caring Sisters Association, a Lagos-based non-governmental organisation (NGO), recently rolled out the drums at a colourful Christmas party used to put smiles on the faces of children invited from selected orphanages.

The party held at Ogudu GRA was, according to Caring Sisters President, Mrs. Mercy Okoye, an opportunity for the NGO to share with others in the spirit of Christmas and to create a happy and sustainable relationship with the orphanage homes.

“We learnt a lesson today, which was to treat the less-privileged with love and affection. As an organisation, we are concerned about the plight of the weak and elderly; that is why we are here today, to share not only foods, but also show our love and care for them at this very important time of the year,” she told News Express.

According to Mrs. Okoye, people are remembered after they must have passed on – not because of the trillions of naira they amassed, fleet of cars or mansions – but because of how many fellow humans they mentored, changed and made positive differences in their lives. She asked: “How much are we of our brothers’ and sisters’ keepers? How many tears have we wiped away and how many of such tears have we replaced with smiles? These are some of the pertinent questions we should ask ourselves in our quiet and sober moments, as we sojourn on this planet.”

Describing Christmas as a time of giving and showing love, chairman of the occasion, Mr. Sam Egube, Director, Corporate Banking, Diamond Bank Plc, noted that people who have been blessed by God should remember the motherless and the less-privileged in the society and share with them the blessings of God, especially during this period.

He commended the NGO for their initiative and desire to put smiles on the faces of the downtrodden, saying: “I am overwhelmed with the actions of the Caring Sisters Association, Lagos. I am also surprised that it is always unknown persons that come to identify with the orphanage babies, despite the presence of rich men and corporate bodies all over the country. I pray to almighty God to reward this NGO in abundance for putting smiles on the faces of motherless children and widows across the nation.”

In her remarks, the media and publicity secretary of the association, Ifeoma Agbasi, called on corporate organisations and wealthy Nigerians to support the efforts of the NGO in other for it to continue putting smiles on the faces of orphans and widows across the country.

The Caring Sisters Association also used the occasion to bestow awards on some eminent persons who, according to it, has done much to develop potentials in others.
