Ogun State Police PRO, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi
The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 21-year-old butcher, Selim Ayodele, over the alleged stabbing to death of his 26-year-old colleague, Ibrahim Wasiu, following a disagreement at their workplace in Alagbole, Ogun State.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 18, 2026, after the two men had finished their day’s work at a cow meat-selling outlet.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the incident was reported at Ajuwon Police Station at about 8 p.m., prompting a police response.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the disagreement reportedly started over who should sweep the floor at the workplace.
“During the altercation, the suspect allegedly picked up a knife and stabbed the deceased in the left side of his chest before twisting the weapon,” the statement said.
The victim was subsequently rushed to Life Hospital, where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
His remains were deposited at Life Channel Private Mortuary, Lanbe, Ajuwon, for autopsy.
The police said Ayodele was in custody as investigations continued ahead of his prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to prompt response to incidents, thorough investigations and the lawful prosecution of offenders.
He also urged residents to exercise restraint and resolve disagreements peacefully, while encouraging members of the public to report criminal incidents promptly.
The police said further investigations into the incident were ongoing. (The PUNCH)
