The suspects
The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested three suspects and recovered quantities of dry and fresh leaves suspected to be Indian hemp in Keana Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, made this known in a statement issued to journalists in Lafia.
Nansel said the suspects, identified as Aondaver Dominic, Sylvanus Umoor and Peter Tar, were arrested on October 22, 2026, at about 1:00 p.m. by operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Lafia, during an anti-crime patrol.
The command explained that the operation took place at Sabongida Bature and Gidan Kparev villages in Kadarko, where the operatives were led to a hideout where marijuana was allegedly sold and consumed.
SP Nansel said the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the operatives, but were apprehended and quantities of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
He added that further investigation led operatives to a garden behind the suspects’ residence where marijuana was allegedly being cultivated, with freshly harvested leaves recovered from the garden.
According to him, all recovered exhibits had been secured for further investigation.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has ordered a thorough investigation and directed that the suspects and the recovered exhibits be handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further action in accordance with the law.
He charged officers and men of the Command to sustain the operational tempo and intensify efforts towards combating all forms of criminality across the state, reassuring residents of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property. (Daily Trust)
