Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano yesterday presented a brand new 18-seater Nissan bus to the Correspondent’s Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ), Anambra State chapter, saying that it was a sign of good things to come.
Handing over the vehicle keys to the Chairman of the Chapel, Mr. Emmanuel Maduka, at the governor’s lodge in Awka, the governor said that it was his expectation that the vehicle would not only aid the journalists in carrying out their function of news gathering, but will also spur them to cover government’s achievements more adequately.
He urged them to work towards promoting the good image of the state to the different parts of the country and to maintain the attitude of reporting truthfully by confirming facts from appropriate quarters before publication.
Obiano noted that the gift was in line with the promise he made to the Chapel last year at a media parley saying that the media stands as the number one partner of any government in power as they are the ones that relay the good works of the government to the public.
Responding, the Chairman of the chapel hailed the Governor for living up to his promise of providing the Chapel with a vehicle noting that the last time the Chapel benefited from the state government was 16 years ago during the administration of former governor Chinwoke Mbadinuju who gave a 14-seater bus to the Chapel.
He reminded the governor that with a total 41 Journalists working for both national and online mediums, the Chapel has the capacity of spreading the good news of the administration’s achievements far and wide.
While commending the governor for the good gesture, the Union presented the governor with the idea of a workshop on ‘Security and Investment; The Anambra Example,’ which the Chapel was planning to host next month with the aim of projecting the pillars and enablers of the government.
The Chairman further urged the governor to align with members of the correspondents’ Chapel in the activities of his administration for prompt and adequate coverage.
Government officials present at the bus presentation event include Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. James Eze, Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mr. Emeka Ozumba, Director, Ministry of Information and Communication Strategy, Bar. Emeka Ohuoha among few others.
