In its continued efforts at ensuring the prompt payment of teachers’ salaries in the state as well as check payroll fraud and other sharp practices, the Bayelsa State Government has directed Principals of all the secondary schools in the state to open accounts with Sterling Bank Plc.
Handing down the directive in a statement, the state commissioner of Education, Deacon Markson Fefegha also urged the Principals to submit the account details to the Post Primary Schools’ Board, not later than the 9th of this month.
He further directed that, the Principals and their Vice Principals in charge of Administration should be signatories, while the zonal Directors of education and the Accounts Supervisors should be signatories in the case of the various Zonal Boards.
According to the statement, the board members representing the various local government areas (LGAs) are to supervise the payment of the salaries in their LGAs, stressing that, non compliance will be dealt with in line with the civil service rules.
