NAF gunship destroys illegal oil refineries and barges

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched a major attack, destroying illegal oil refineries and barges filled with petroleum products in the course of military campaign to stop illegal bunkering and criminal activities in the Niger Delta region.

The refineries and barges, according to a statement issued on Monday by NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa were sighted by NAF Diamond 42 aircraft on Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission in Bille community in Rivers State.
“Thereafter, an Mi-24V helicopter gunship was called-in for attack. The operation was a success as can be seen from the enclosed photographs of the illegal refineries and barges on fire. A similar operation was carried out with remarkable success about 2 days ago in the same location,” the NAF Spokesman said, stressing that the attacks were clear signals to criminals operating in the South-South region, as well and other parts of the country, that it is no longer business as usual.
