Veteran Nigerian journalist and international bestselling author, Peter Anosike PhD, has donated literature books to the youths in Ojo Archdeaconry of Lagos West Anglican Church of Nigeria.
The literature book, titled The Price of Kindness is a compelling African story about character, faith, resilience, family values and the consequences of choosing goodness in a world where kindness is not always rewarded.
Speaking on the occasion, Anosike who is also the founder/president, Stretch International Foundation AKA Stretch Africa Foundation, an NGO with bias for vulnerable children in Africa, said that the book is part of his contribution towards helping children to learn, grow and develop into confident, responsible and God-fearing individuals.
According to him, the Bible says, train up a child in the way he should grow and when he grows older, he would not depart from it.
He said that because of the hard biting economic situation in the country, fathers and mothers have become bread winners, adding that this is having negative impact in the nurturing of children as their parents most of the time are no longer there to watch them grow.
He said that what made the literature book unique is that it is both for the children and their parents.
According to him, the book contains a section titled ‘Parents Corner’, which basically dealt on child upbringing.
His words: “During creation, God designed success inside each of the creatures. In the seed, he put a tree. In the fish, he put swimming. In the bird, he put flying. That is the reason why a seed does not have to go to gardening school, before it would produce a tree. A fish does not have to go to swimming school before it would start to swim and a bird does not have to go to flight school to fly. But before these creatures would manifest the successes that God put in them, they have to be in the right environment. A seed cannot produce a tree if it is put inside a cupboard. A fish cannot swim if it is kept on the land a bird cannot fly if it is locked up inside a cage. The same thing goes for the boy child or girl child. They cannot manifest the successes that God put in them if they are not growing in the right environment and that is where parents come in. If your child is not doing well, instead of abusing, castigating or comparing him or her with the other children in the neighbourhood, first of all check if he or she is in the right environment. The way a seed produces a tree if it kept in the right environment is the same way a child will manifest the success that God put in him or her if he or she is growing in the right environment.”
Anosike said that the success of a man is not measured by the positions he has occupied in the society, how many house he has built, how many cars he drives or how much millions he has in his bank but rather, how well his children has turned out in the society.
In his contribution, the Archdeacon of Ojo Archdeaconry, Timothy Oyedele commended Anosike for writing and donating the book to the youths.
According to him, if the right foundation is laid for the children they would always make positive impact.
He warned parents not do use because of the desire to make ends meet and abandon their divine responsibility as builders of children and the society.
“The most precious gift that God gave to the women is children and they must be considered first before any other thing. If you abandon your children in the pursuit of material things who would enjoy it when you have got them?” Archdeacon Oyedele asked
