An Abakialiki man resident in Anambra State, whose name was given as Chima Ofoeke, has been arrested by the State Police Command over suspected murder of 23-year-old Mmesoma Umeorini in Uga community, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.
According to a statement made available to journalists in Awka on Saturday, October 24, 2026 by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, his arrest followed a report by the victim’s mother to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Umuchu Division, that her daughter had been missing since 16th October 2026, despite efforts to establish her whereabouts.
Ikenga said: “Acting on intelligence-led information, police operatives, in collaboration with members of the Agunechemba security outfit in Uga, arrested the suspect, who was identified as the deceased’s alleged former boyfriend.
“During preliminary interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to killing the victim following the breakdown of their relationship.
“He subsequently led detectives to the location where the remains of the deceased were discovered and recovered.
“In view of the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Oji has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Awka, for a comprehensive and diligent investigation, with a view to ensuring that justice is served.”
The Command further reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to promptly report cases of missing persons and other suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
