Veteran lawyer and human rights activist, Chief Mike Ozekhome, has been released by his kidnappers. A news flash on Facebook by Mr. Kenny Adewole, who works in the Nigerian Presidency, said: “Mike Ozekhome has just been released by his kidnappers. We give thanks to God for honouring His word.”
It is not yet clear if any ransom was paid to secure the release of Ozekhome, who is also a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC). His kidnappers had demanded 150 million naira but later came down to 100 million naira.
Hopes of Ozekhome’s likely release rose two days ago when another APC chieftain, Mr. Athanasius Ugbome, who was abducted with him, regained his freedom.
Chief Ozekhome (SAN), who is based in Lagos, was kidnapped on Friday afternoon, August 23, along the Benin-Auchi Road in his native Edo State on his way back from his hometown, Auchi.
He was taken away with his driver after the gunmen killed two policemen who attempted abort the operation.
