ABBA's catalog may be the strongest in pop music history. That’s quite the claim, but the Swedish band created some of the most memorable tunes in the genre. Many of ABBA's singles from half a century ago are not only still beloved, they remain heavily consumed to this day. The continued popularity of quite a few of the group’s tracks and the compilation on which they’ve been collected is incredibly impressive.

“Gold – Greatest Hits” has become a fixture on the charts in the United Kingdom, and it will likely never disappear. This week is a very special one for the title, as the compilation reaches a landmark that has seemingly never been seen before in the country.

Gold rises on the Official Albums chart this frame, nearly reentering the top 10 as it jumps from No. 18 to No. 11. It does so while celebrating 1,200 weeks on the list of the most popular releases in the U.K. It appears that ABBA’s compilation is the first project to reach that figure.

Two other titles are not far behind Gold and will likely reach 1,200 weeks on the Official Albums chart in the coming months. Legend by Bob Marley and the Wailers is up to 1,185 stays on the tally. Greatest Hits by Queen recently passed 1,150, and since it is also rarely, if ever, missing from the ranking, it probably needs less than a year to join Gold in this feat.

ABBA’s Gold is a Major Chart Win

Gold is performing well across all metrics, which helps it nearly return to the top 10 on the Official Albums chart. The compilation also climbs to No. 11 on the Official Albums Streaming list. Purchases remain strong as the collection gains by double-digit spots on the Official Albums Sales, Official Album Downloads, and Official Physical Albums tallies.

Gold Nearly Doubles All Other ABBA Albums Combined

ABBA has sent two dozen projects to the Official Albums chart throughout the years, a combination of both traditional full-lengths and a variety of compilations. Excluding Gold, those releases have racked up just under 700 weeks on the ranking. That means the band’s one compilation is close to doubling the total number of weeks all of its other charting efforts have managed over the decades. (Forbes)
