Popular Lagos socialite, Emeka Okonkwo Daniel, aka E-Money
Businessman and socialite Emeka Okonkwo, popularly known as E-Money, has issued a public message urging Nigerians to desist from spraying the Naira or any other currency at parties, warning that such actions are against the law.
In an Instagram post on Thursday, E-Money emphasized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s directive that money should not be thrown or sprayed during celebrations, noting that such acts constitute currency abuse.
“Let’s celebrate responsibly and avoid fines. Respect our currency!” he said.
“If you must give money at a party, make sure you put it in a basket or in a bowl or container in front of the person at the party. Don’t drop any currency on the floor,” E-Money added, warning that ignorance of the law will not be accepted as an excuse
The message comes just days after E-Money was reportedly arrested and questioned by the EFCC over alleged abuse of the Naira and U.S. Dollar during public events.
he EFCC has consistently warned against the spraying or mutilation of currency, labeling it a criminal offense under Nigerian law.
The agency has stepped up enforcement in recent months, targeting high-profile individuals seen publicly mishandling cash at social functions. (The PUNCH)
