Renowned Emeritus Professor of African philosophy, Prof T. Uzodinma Nwala, will deliver the keynote lecture at the 2025 Celestine Ukwu Memorial Foundation event.
At the event billed for Amedeo Hall, Enugu on Tuesday, May 6, Professor Nwala, widely regarded as the Father of African Philosophy, founder and chairman BOT of Alaigbo Development Foundation will drive home the dialectics of how African music and African philosophy continue to influence, inspire and reshape each other.
In a statement signed by Barrister Cynthia Ukwu, Executive Director for Celestine Ukwu Memorial Foundation, the choice of Prof Nwala as guest speaker at Celestine Ukwu Memorial event 2025 underlines the fact that Prof Nwala's ideas link up with Celestine Ukwu's core values and all he represented and continues to represent through his music.
Professor Nwala is noted as Father of African Philosophy while Celestine Ukwu is noted for his philosopher National Band, a deep rooted spiritual connection one might say. According to the organisers, “Since our series is; ‘When music meets philosophy season 2’, we couldn't have made a better choice in a speaker in Prof Nwala”.
Born 83 years ago, Prof Nwala is one of Africa's greatest thinkers who erudite character has seen him hobnobbing with world leaders both local and international.
His contributions has so much impacted on Igbo consciousness as well as the growth of Nigeria.
From being the first graduate of philosophy at the University of Nigeria to projecting for an academic course known as African philosophy globally to writing the first briefs that set up ASUU and becoming its first general Sec, Prof Nwala also was part of those who midwifed the famous G34 group which later became PDP. In fact, he was pivotal in the drafting of the PDP constitution.
While at the UN, he helped in producing a youth pathway for the world.
