The British Government has pledged to increase its support to Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.
The British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr Paul Arkwright, made the pledge while fielding questions from newsmen in Kano on Wednesday.
He said the measure had become necessary in order to ensure peace and security for economic growth and development in the country.
He added that “UK is increasing its military support to Nigeria in the fight against insurgency.
“It is also doubling the military training programme as we have had a number of meetings with Ministry of Defence on how to increase the support.”
He also expressed the commitment of the British Government to continue to support Nigeria in the fight against corruption.
Arkwright, who, described President Muhammadu Buhari’s anti-graft war as a positive action, said the British Government would continue to support Nigeria in the fight against corruption.
He said “wherever the UK has evidence of looted funds, it will support the judiciary in order to accelerate the legal process.
“Where we have evidence, we will help and support judges to accelerate the process.”
According to him, the UK will also ensure that all the returned stolen monies are used in the execution of projects that will be beneficial to all Nigerians.
“The UK will make sure that the returned monies go to the right projects for the benefit of Nigerians.”
The high commissioner said that the UK planed to host an International Summit on Corruption and President Muhammadu Buhari would be invited to attend.
