A middle-aged man, Monday Onyikwa, on Monday confessed to abducting a six-year-old girl in Umuefi Nteje community, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, on the instructions of a native doctor.
Onyikwa, who made the confession to journalists at the State Police Command headquarters in Amawbia, said the native doctor had promised to pay him the sum of N100,000 on completion of the task.
He said: “I kidnapped the victim during a burial ceremony in the community and was on my way to the native doctor’s place when I was arrested.”
Onyikwa said he got to know the native doctor at the police station when he was arrested for stealing a phone, saying that he introduced himself to him and gave him his number.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Haruna Mohammed, disclosed that the victim has since been reunited with her family.
According to him, “On 23-3-2019, at about 9am, one Pius Egbuna of Nteje reported that his daughter, Chisom, was missing and was nowhere to be found.
“Following intelligence report, police detectives arrested one Monday Onyikwa in the bush with the victim.
“Suspect confessed that he was taking her to one Nnamdi, a native doctor who was equally arrested at Nando village in Anambra East LGA for a fee of N100,000 for ritual purpose.”
