Joao Pedro salvaged a point for Chelsea as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Hull City in a four-goal thriller at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea raced into an early lead, with Morgan Rogers becoming the first player to score against promoted Hull this season.

However, Mohamed Belloumi struck twice in the space of six minutes to completely change the complexion of the game by the 34th minute.

The Tigers were unable to keep Chelsea at bay during the second half, though, with Joao Pedro's emphatic equaliser after 66 minutes denying the visitors – who impressively remain unbeaten – the chance to move top of the table.

How the match unfolded

Goals have come easy for Chelsea this season and they took just seven minutes to get off the mark, with Rogers drilling Joao Pedro's pass low inside the near post from the left side of the box.

The Blues initially pushed to add to their lead, but Hull drew level in the 28th minute when Jorrel Hato was caught out by the bounce on Ryan Giles' looping cross and Belloumi took full advantage with a fine finish.

Hull stunned Stamford Bridge by going in front; after Semi Ajayi's header hit the crossbar, Oli McBurnie teed up Belloumi on the edge of the box and his shot took two deflections before nestling in the net.

Xabi Alonso replaced Hato with Pep Chavarria for the second half and Reece James nearly restored parity in the 53rd minute when his free-kick was only just kept out of the top-left corner by Konstantinos Tzolakis.

McBurnie was unable to capitalise after Emiliano Martinez failed to hold Regan Slater's powerful drive and Chelsea got back on level terms when Joao Pedro lashed Cole Palmer's clever cutback into the roof of the net.

Both teams had chances to net a winner. Rogers was denied by Tzolakis after exploiting space left by Brooke Norton-Cuffy's surge forward, before substitute Mohamed-Ali Cho was thwarted from eight yards by Martinez in the 88th minute.

Tzolakis then kept out home substitute Estevao from an acute angle in stoppage time and the Blues had a penalty appeal for a handball by Ajayi turned down, meaning Hull sit third on eight points.

They are one place above Chelsea, who have seven points from their four matches.
