Two persons have been reported dead in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, following a clash between some members of the community and operatives of the reformed Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The clash, News Express gathered, was ignited following the death of a young man who was riding a motorcycle in the night and was hit by the police van while evading arrest, resulting in his losing control of the bike.
It was learnt that another person whose identity could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report was gunned down during a protest at Nteje Police Station over the death of the motorcyclist.
The protesters, reportedly including the State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Uchenna Okafor, took to the roads, causing heavy traffic jam for both vehicles and those trekking.
It much effort by a police reinforcement to reopen the Awkuzu part of the Enugu – Onitsha Expressway for vehicular movement.
Efforts to speak with the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of the area proved abortive even as the State Police Command in Awka is yet to respond to enquiries.
