The Kaduna State Government has debunked claims that Governor Uba Sani approved and released N2.3 trillion for the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign in the state.
The government described a letter circulating on social media, which allegedly indicated the approval, as fake, saying the governor neither authored nor authorised the document.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, stated this in a statement issued on Saturday in Kaduna.
He said the purported letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” falsely claimed that the governor released N2.3 trillion for the APC presidential campaign flag-off scheduled for Saturday, October 24.
The letter was allegedly addressed to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.
Maiyaki said the claim was not only false but financially implausible, considering that the entire 2026 Kaduna State budget stood at N985.92 billion.
He said the alleged campaign expenditure was more than twice the state’s annual budget and was not supported by any authentic appropriation, approval or expenditure records.
“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Governor Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no N2.3 trillion was budgeted, approved or released for the presidential campaign flag-off,” the commissioner said.
He described the allegation as fictitious and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
Maiyaki also identified inconsistencies in the purported letter, including the misspelling of the governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and discrepancies in its presentation.
He further raised concerns over the apparent unauthorised reproduction of the governor’s signature, saying the irregularities cast doubt on the document’s credibility.
The commissioner said the administration had remained committed to fiscal discipline, transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources since Governor Uba Sani assumed office on May 29, 2023.
He listed investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection as priorities of the administration.
According to him, the government’s financial management approach is reflected in its infrastructure programme, increased agricultural investment, rehabilitation of public institutions, settlement of inherited pension liabilities and expansion of social protection interventions.
Maiyaki expressed concern over what he described as an emerging pattern of misinformation aimed at discrediting the governor and his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He warned that the fabrication of official correspondence and circulation of false financial claims could attract criminal sanctions.
“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law. The fabrication of government correspondence and circulation of false financial claims cannot be justified as legitimate political criticism.
“Those seeking to hold government accountable must do so through credible evidence, not manufactured documents,” he said.
The commissioner disclosed that the government was taking steps to establish the origin of the purported letter.
He called on security and investigative agencies to examine the document and ensure that anyone found culpable in forgery or impersonation was brought to justice in accordance with the law.
Maiyaki also urged media organisations and members of the public to exercise caution in circulating unverified documents, stressing that allegations concerning public expenditure should be properly scrutinised before publication.
He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to peace, strengthening public institutions, infrastructure development and improving the welfare of citizens, saying the government would not be distracted from its focus on prudent financial management and sustainable development. (Daily Trust)
