A family at Agban village in Umuawulu, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has lost their home and properties worth millions of Naira to inferno.

Narrating the story of the incident, Mr. Cyril Nweke said the inferno started shortly after Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) restored power to the area.

He said the inferno was caused by a power surge, which led to a spark and subsequent razing of the building.

According to Nweke, the bungalow was recently renovated for the upcoming burial ceremony of their mom who passed on recently.

He called on good spirited individuals, relevant stakeholders and authorities to come to their aid.

While thanking God that no life was lost in the inferno, the traditional ruler of Umuawulu Igwe Joel Egwuonwu regretted that the fire destroyed the family's hope of livelihood, adding that important documents and lifetime investments were also lost to the inferno.

When contacted, the Director of State Fire Service, Mr. Martin Agbili, who sympathized with the victims over the incident, urged residents of the state to always be wary of anything that may lead to fire outbreak at home, stressing the need for people to keep fire extinguishers at home in case of any eventuality.
