Senator Ben Bruce
Senator Ben Bruce has slammed the allocation of N40 million in the 2017 budget for the feeding of wild animals in the presidential villa.
The senator represents the Bayelsa east district.
The lawmaker known for his ‘commonsense’ slogan in a series of tweets expressed his grievances, saying the current economic situation of the country does not allow for such allocation.
“It breaks my heart that at a time when many Nigerians can’t eat we are budgeting N40 million to feed wildlife in Aso Rock Presidential Villa.”
He also stated that with a Dollar at N510, buying made in Nigeria goods has now become a necessity.
“At N510 to a dollar, #BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira is no luxury, it is not even a necessity. Nigeria has reached the stage where it’s a necessity.” Ben Bruce tweeted.
Ben Bruce had earlier criticised the 2017 budget saying the country cannot develop with the recurrent expenditure of the budget at 70 to 75 percent.
He proposed that the recurrent expenditure be placed at 50 percent to allow room for more capital projects.
Bruce also said the benchmark of N305 to a dollar was not realistic because at the “black market,” naira was about N500 to a dollar.(TV360 Nigeria)
