The Kano State Police Command has arrested 840 persons suspected to be members of the terrorist group, Boko Haram.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Magaji Majia, told journalists that the arrest followed an intelligence report that some unidentified people from the northeast region have disguised as internally displaced persons to infiltrate the state.

He explained that a special task force embarked on a special operation early on Thursday following the report that members of the group were relocating to Kano to regroup and attack the city.

The result was an arrest of 111 foreigners, 53 from the north eastern part of Nigeria, 112 prostitutes, 67 underage and 544 adults all within the eight metropolitan local government areas of the state.

According to Majia, most of those arrested have no any means of identification and also have no reason whatsoever to be on the streets at the time they were arrested.

He also said that investigation had commenced and those with questionable character would remain in detention while others will be set free.

The Kano state command has also already begun a special supply of daily meal to the suspects as some of them explained how they were apprehended by the police officers on patrol duty.

Following the recent liberation of Sambisa Forest, security agencies in Kano have been on the alert with an increase in check points in most parts of the state especially at the entry and exit route of the state. (Channels TV)
