Troops of the Operation Enduring Peace
Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) have arrested a driver, identified as Mr Amos Ezekiel, for allegedly assaulting a soldier and an Area Commander during a confrontation at Dorowa Checkpoint in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State.
Security sources said the incident occurred at about 5:20 p.m. on Oct. 29, 2026, while troops of Sector 4 OPEP were conducting stop-and-search duties at the checkpoint.
The sources said the driver was among a convoy of three vehicles comprising two Ford Galaxy vehicles and a Prado Jeep, which reportedly approached the checkpoint at high speed.
The convoy allegedly almost hit a soldier, who was on duty at the checkpoint.
The soldier reportedly accosted the drivers over their alleged reckless approach, leading to an argument. During the confrontation, Ezekiel allegedly stepped out of his vehicle and assaulted the soldier.
The Area Commander, who intervened to resolve the situation, was also allegedly assaulted by the driver. Security sources said the confrontation resulted in the breaking of the Area Commander's rifle butt.
The driver was subsequently arrested and detained, while other members of the convoy were reportedly released.
The incident is expected to be investigated to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault and damage to military equipment. (Zagazola, but headline reworked)
