Imo NDC not in coalition talk with APC, says party spokespersonlogo
By CHARLES IWUOHA
The Imo State Chapter of Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has distanced itself from recent statements allegedly credited to the spokesperson of All Progressives Congress, APC, Imo Chapter, Onwuasoanya Jones, who according to the party was captured saying that NDC is in a coalition discussion with APC in the state.
The party, in a press statement issued on Thursday through its spokesperson, Cyriacus Nwagwu, debunked the information and described it as a brain creation from the purported originator.
NDC, in the press release, stated clearly that the party is not in any coalition talk with any political party including the APC.
"For the avoidance of doubt, NDC, Imo State Chapter, has never authorized any coalition discussion with APC.
"We challenge Onwuasoanya Jones to substantiate his claim with credible evidence or retract them.
"NDC remains committed to its mission of rescuing Nigeria and providing credible leadership. Our anticipated political engagement in Owerri on October 31, 2026 underscores our determination to strengthen our movement and mobilize Nigerians for meaningful change." the release stated.
The party, also asserted that the claim made by the APC spokesperson that 80 per cent of Imo electorate including members of NDC are in the alleged coalition discussions is presumptuous, misleading and unsupported by verifiable evidence.
The NDC leadership in the State, advised APC to focus on addressing the concerns of Imo people over insecurity, economic hardship, and governance rather than making sweeping electoral claims.
It maintained that electoral victory is earned through public trust, not manufactured through political propaganda.
"We warn APC against dragging NDC into unsubstantiated political narratives. Any further demonstrably false claims that damage our party's reputation will be addressed through appropriate legal channels.
"Our position is clear, the NDC will not be intimidated, misrepresented, or distracted by political theatrics. Our loyalty is to the people, our mission is national transformation, and our focus remains firmly on the future," the release added.
