ADC flag bearer Atiku and his running mate Amaechi
By ADEROGBA GEORGE
The Southern Political Progressives Amalgamation Forum (SPPAF) has urged the presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, to carefully consider his choice of running mate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, In a statement issued on Friday in Abuja and signed by Johnson Iheanacho, Eniafe Ayomide and Anga Fidelis, said the choice of a vice-presidential candidate would be critical to the party’s electoral strategy and national appeal.
According to the forum, the opposition coalition has generated expectations among Nigerians seeking an alternative political platform ahead of the 2027 elections.
It said the ADC should ensure that its decisions on the composition of its presidential ticket reflected national unity, inclusiveness and the party’s objective of broadening its support base across the country.
The forum stated that a running mate should possess the capacity to complement the presidential candidate, strengthen the party’s campaign and inspire confidence among party members and supporters.
It expressed the view that the party should carefully evaluate all available options before making a final decision on its vice-presidential candidate.
The group also urged the ADC leadership to be guided by merit, political acceptability and the overall interest of the party and the country.
According to the forum, the opposition would require a broadly acceptable ticket capable of attracting support from different parts of the country in the 2027 general elections.
It reaffirmed its support for the ADC and expressed the hope that the party would take decisions that would strengthen its campaign and enhance public confidence in its capacity to provide an alternative platform for governance.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the ADC has confirmed that the names of its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and his running mate, Rotimi Amaechi, have been uploaded to the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement posted on X, describing the submission as another milestone in the party’s preparations for the 2027 general elections. (Text, excluding headline: NAN)
