Kano Commissioner for Works, Engr Marwan Ahmad
The Kano State Government has announced the installation of 12,050 solar-powered streetlights across the Kano metropolis over the past three years as part of efforts to improve public infrastructure, enhance security, and stimulate economic activities.
The Commissioner for Works, Engr. Marwan Ahmad, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the achievements recorded by the Ministry of Works under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
According to Ahmad, the solar-powered streetlights were strategically installed along major roads, streets, and other critical locations within the metropolis to provide adequate illumination, improve road safety, and strengthen security across communities.
He explained that the initiative aligns with the state government’s vision of modernising public infrastructure through sustainable and environmentally friendly solutions that reduce reliance on conventional energy sources while lowering the cost of maintaining public utilities.
The commissioner noted that the extensive streetlight installations have significantly transformed the nighttime landscape of Kano city, making roads safer for motorists, pedestrians, and residents. He added that the project has also created a more conducive environment for businesses and commercial activities to thrive after dark.
“The project reflects the government’s determination to improve the quality of life of citizens through investments in critical infrastructure that directly impact socio-economic development,” he said.
Ahmad reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to sustaining infrastructural development across the state, revealing that additional streetlight projects, road rehabilitation works, and other public infrastructure initiatives are being planned to further improve living standards and support urban growth.
He commended Governor Yusuf for what he described as unwavering support and consistent investment in infrastructure projects, noting that the governor’s leadership has been instrumental in driving the ongoing transformation across the state.
The commissioner also assured residents that the Ministry of Works would continue to monitor and maintain the installed facilities to ensure their efficiency, durability, and long-term functionality. He added that similar interventions would be extended to other parts of the state.
The Kano State Government reiterated its commitment to providing modern infrastructure and implementing sustainable development initiatives aimed at enhancing security, promoting economic prosperity, and improving the overall well-being of residents. (Nigerian Tribune)
