Apostle Suleman
Founder and General Overseer of Omega Fire Ministries International, Apostle Johnson Suleman, has urged President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action against those financing terrorism and violent crimes across Nigeria, warning that failure to do so should prompt him to step aside.
Speaking during a church service, Suleman argued that the country’s security crisis cannot be resolved by targeting only those carrying out attacks.
According to him, the real challenge lies with the individuals and networks that provide funding, weapons, and logistical support to fuel terrorism.
He maintained that identifying, arresting, and prosecuting the sponsors of terrorism is essential to ending the cycle of violence, kidnappings, and banditry affecting many parts of the country.
“The sponsors of terrorism are our real problem. Go after them. If the President cannot deal with them, he should resign and let somebody else do it,” he said.
Suleman further claimed that many of the young men currently involved in armed violence are products of long-standing terrorist networks that were allowed to flourish over the years.
“The people you are facing now are the children of those terrorists who were six years old when they brought them in 2014 and who have now grown to be 19 or 21 years old. That is why you see small boys carrying AK-47 rifles. Go after the sponsors who empower them,” he added.
The cleric stressed that arresting attackers without dismantling the networks behind them would not bring lasting peace or security.
Despite his criticism of the government’s handling of insecurity, Suleman praised Nigeria’s security agencies, describing the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and the Department of State Services (DSS) as among the most capable institutions globally.
Drawing from his international travels, he said Nigerian security personnel possess the expertise required to tackle insecurity but need stronger political backing to effectively confront those driving violence.
He insisted that insecurity would persist unless the government demonstrates the political will to expose and prosecute those funding terrorist activities.
Nigeria continues to grapple with terrorism, banditry, kidnappings and other violent crimes in several regions, with growing calls from citizens, religious leaders and public figures for stronger and more effective measures to restore security across the country.
