The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People (MOSOP) has expressed deep concern over moves by politicians to influence the appointment of a political party loyalist to the position of the Project Manager/Secretary for the Governing Council of HYPREP – the implementation agency for the Ogoni cleanup.
“We wish to state clearly that we reject the use of the Ogoni cleanup to compensate party loyalists and will be willing to call out our people against attempts by politicians to target Ogoni cleanup funds to compensate and fund a political party,” the Movement said in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Wednesday by its Publicity Secretary, Fegalo Nsuke.
He stressed that MOSOP is fully aware of the antics to blackmail the Hon. Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed into appointing a political party loyalist into the position of a project manager/secretary for HYPREP.
“Furthermore, the Ogoni cleanup is about our people, our lives and future and we insist that our input must be sought on who becomes the project manager for the Ogoni cleanup.
“We therefore want to state unequivocally that MOSOP rejects political party considerations as basis for the appointment of a project manager/secretary for HYPREP.
“MOSOP insists on a competent, experienced and non-partisan professional for the position of a project manager/secretary for HYPREP and our input is cardinal in arriving at that decision,” the group affirmed.
