APC Chairman, Yilwatda
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has constituted screening and appeal committees for sitting governors seeking re-election or Senate seats, as well as other governorship aspirants, ahead of the party’s primary elections scheduled for May 21.
The development was contained in a statement issued by the APC National Organising Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu.
According to the statement, APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, will chair the Screening Committee for incumbent governors and Senate aspirants, while Senate spokesman, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, will serve as Secretary.
The party also constituted an appeal committee for the category, chaired by Hon. Ali Bukar Dalori, with Barrister Murtala Aliyu Kankia serving as Secretary.
Other members of the panel include H.E. Sulaiman M. Argungu, Mrs. Mary Alile Idele, Aare Durotolu Oyebode Bankole, Ambassador Haruna Ginsau, Uguru Mathew Ofoke, Barrister Felix Morka, Muazu Bawa Rijau, Dr. Ijeomah Arodiogbu, and Chief Victor Giadom.
For other governorship aspirants, the APC named Dr. Benjamin Obi Nwoye as Chairman of the Screening Committee, while Barrister Emeka Okafor will serve as Secretary.
Barrister Idris Shuaibu will chair the appeal committee for the category, assisted by Barrister Ibrahim Salawu as Secretary.
Other members include Hon. Garba Datti Muhammad, Hon. Donatus Nwankpa, Senator Abubakar Maikafi, Dr. Abdullahi Dayo Israel, Hon. Hamma-Adama Ali Kumo, Hon. Durosinmi Meseko, and Hajia Zainab A. Ibrahim.
The party said screening for incumbent governors and Senate aspirants will take place from Friday, May 8 to Saturday, May 9, 2026, at the Plateau State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
According to the schedule released by the party, the exercise will commence at 4:00 p.m. on the first day and continue at 10:00 a.m. on the second day.
The screening exercise for other governorship aspirants is billed to hold from Saturday, May 9 to Sunday, May 10, 2026, at the National Working Committee (NWC) Hall of the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, beginning at 10:00 a.m. daily.
The APC said the constitution of the committees forms part of preparations for the party’s governorship and legislative primaries ahead of the forthcoming elections. (AriseNews TV)
