Governor Otti
The Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has expressed confidence in the Labour Party’s leadership structure, following the first meeting of the newly inaugurated National Working Committee.
Otti, who joined the meeting as an observer, described the session as well-coordinated, with most NWC members attending in person.
He commended National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman and the 33 other committee members, saying they had earned the trust to pilot the party for the next four years.
Otti expressed confidence in Usman’s capacity to lead, recalling her performance in the last two years as national caretaker chairman. Adding that he had no doubt, the NWC would show dexterity in managing party affairs, including primaries slated for the next one month.
The governor said the new executives have the capacity to consolidate the party’s past successes and manage upcoming political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
On reconciliation, Otti noted that over 25 state chairmen from the Abure group attended the convention and were returned as NWC members.
“In this disagreement, we declared that there was no victor, no vanquished. Everybody is a winner, the party’s doors remain open, even for Abure to return to the party that he has worked for.” he added
He reaffirmed that the Labour Party remains open to all eligible Nigerians, but stressed that aspirants seeking the party’s ticket must fulfil key conditions, including valid membership and financial obligations.
Otti ruled out the Ibadan Summit, stating the Labour Party was never part of it and “cannot be bound by the opposition decision to field a single presidential candidate.
“Unfortunately, we are not part of the summit because we were holding our national convention then. We are not part of this agreement.” he said
