Graphic Tables
By BONIFACE AKARAH
The International Society for Civil Liberties and Rule of Law (Intersociety) has raised alarm over what it described as a long-term existential threat to Christian populations across Africa, warning of possible large-scale decline within the next century.
The group disclosed this in a statement issued in Enugu, where it unveiled graphic projections outlining what it termed a “dangerous trajectory” for Christians on the continent.
According to the organisation, one of its newly released graphic tables projects a possible “obliteration” of significant Christian populations in Africa between 2075 and 2125 if current trends persist.
The group said the projection particularly affects countries with large Christian populations, including Nigeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo and Ethiopia.
It attributed the projected threat to what it described as “globalised, Africanised and Nigerianised Islamic jihadism,” warning that the trend could escalate if not addressed.
The organisation noted that the projections were based on long-term data covering incidents of killings, abductions, displacement and destruction of religious institutions.
It added that the tables were designed to simplify complex data for public understanding, with a viewing timeframe of less than five minutes.
Intersociety called for urgent global and regional attention to the situation, stressing the need for coordinated action to prevent further escalation of violence
