Former PDP National Chairman, Ambassador Umar Damagun
Nearly three months after completing their tenure of office, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) still lists Ambassador Umar Damagun as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This comes amid efforts of the party’s leading lights to broker peace among the gladiators fighting for the soul of the main opposition party.
The Nation reports that the planned reconciliation of the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee (NWC) and the Nyesom Wike-backed National Caretaker Committee (NCC) is yet to take off.
Sources close to the Turaki-led NWC said leaders loyal to the faction have been meeting to present their position, which will be presented to the reconciliation team when it starts meeting.
The source said: “Governors Bala Mohammed (Bauchi) and Seye Makinde (Oyo) as well as others in our team, are holding meetings to come up with a position for the reconciliation. We are optimistic that at the end of the day, something positive will come out of it.
“Wike has told us that he wants former Senate President Bukola Saraki to be part of the team. But right now, Saraki is not in the country. He will come back from the Lesser Hajj (Umrah) on Salah (Eid-el-Fitri) day.”
Also, our correspondent’s checks on the INEC website revealed that Umar Damagun, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, Ahmed Yayale Mohammed, and Kamaldeen Ajibade are still listed as Chairman, Secretary, Treasurer, and Legal Adviser of the party. (The Nation)
