City Boy Movement rally in Owerri
By NAOMI SHARANG
The City Boys Movement (CBM) has described the brief disruption that occurred during its mega empowerment rally in Owerri, Imo, as an attempt to undermine youth empowerment efforts in the South-East.
Director-General of the movement, Francis Shoga, made this known in a statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs, Aminat Aminu-Isah, on Sunday in Abuja.
Shoga, while admitting that a brief disruption occurred during the programme held at Heroes Square, Owerri, however, said that the situation was quickly brought under control and did not result in any fatality.
He said that the rally, which brought together beneficiaries from the five South-East states, was organised to distribute empowerment items to accredited youths, as part of the movement’s broader engagement and capacity-building initiatives.
“The programme had progressed peacefully before some unidentified individuals caused a brief disturbance that triggered momentary confusion within parts of the venue.
“Preliminary reports indicate that the programme had progressed peacefully before some individuals disrupted the process and triggered a brief stampede within parts of the venue.
“Thankfully, no fatalities were recorded, and no attendee has been reported missing,” he said.
Shoga commend members and volunteers who maintained order and civility during the programme in spite of the brief disruption.
He reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to youth mobilisation and leadership development in line with the Renewed Hope vision.
“The City Boy Movement remains fully committed to mobilising, mentoring and grooming Nigerian youths for responsible leadership while promoting discipline, patriotism and service to the nation,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Owerri mega empowerment rally formed part of the movement’s regional mobilisation and youth empowerment initiative in the South-East zone.
It was aimed at supporting young Nigerians through skill support tools, empowerment materials and civic engagement programmes. (NAN)
