National Assembly summons Buhari over economic recession

The Nigerian Senate has concurred with the House of Representatives to invite President Muhammadu Buhari to address the legislature on efforts being made by his administration to get the country out of the crippling economic recession.‎

‎‎The briefing by President Buhari would enable the National Assembly to take further legislative actions as quickly as possible, the Senate said. ‎
‎‎The upper chamber passed the motion during Thursday’s plenary. The decision followed a unanimous ‘Yes’ vote after it was put to vote by Senate President Bukola Saraki, who presided over plenary.
With the summons, President Buhari is expected to soon address a joint Session of the National Assembly on the economic recession that has made life a big nightmare for many Nigerians. ‎
Meanwhile‎, the Senate today passed eight Bills received from the House of Representatives for concurrence, aimed at strengthening the laws of the Federal Republic. They were considered and passed in a single sitting of the Senate, demonstrating commitment to employing all legislative mechanisms at its disposal to end the current economic recession in the country.‎
