NIPSS Director, Dr Ayo Omotosho

The National Institute for Policy and strategic Studies (NIPSS) has announced the establishment of a dedicated policy team aimed at improving governance and strengthening national security in Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen at the National Institute in Kuru near Jos, the Director General of the foremost National Institute, Dr Ayo Omotosho, said the National institute’s leadership team would serve as a central hub for analyzing government policies, setting regulatory strategies, and running advocacy programs to enhance public understanding of governance.

According to the NIPSS Boss, the policy team will operate like a full-fledged television station which would be focused exclusively on policy discussions.

“After some time, if we are able to succeed in what we are doing, this team will become a station where everything we do is about policy,”

Dr Omotosho added that the initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage informed discourse, evaluate government strategies, and provide feedback to policymakers.

On national security, the Director General of NIPSS, highlighted the need for adaptive responses to evolving threats, particularly as the country approaches election periods.

He added that NIPSS had submitted a preliminary report to the presidency and is consulting security experts and scholars to address emerging challenges.

The institute Boss hinted on the importance of local intelligence, community engagement, and leveraging veteran personnel to safeguard communities.

While acknowledging that not all government actions are perfect, the institute Director General emphasized on the need for constructive criticism to support positive initiatives.

“The easiest thing to do under the sun is to open your mouth and criticize, But if you understand what people in government actually are going through, you will appreciate their efforts.” He stressed

Dr Omotosho further stressed that the policy team of the National Institute is expected to provide a platform for continuous discourse on governance and regulation, towards helping citizens to better understand the complexities of policymaking while supporting the government’s efforts to respond effectively to security and societal challenges in Nigeria.
