‘Do It Right’: Campaign to change Nigeria suffers setback

An awareness sensitisation campaign organised by the Do It Right Foundation, a non-profit organisation, and aimed at bringing about positive change in Nigeria has suffered a setback as a result of a ban placed on public processions in the country’s capital, Abuja.

As reported this morning by News Express, the indefinite ban was imposed by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed D. Abubakar, following a tip-off that the African Peoples Congress, which is laying claim to the sobriquet “APC” was planning to register its displeasure by taking to the streets of Abuja over Wednesday’s registration of the mega opposition party, All Progressives Congress (APC) by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), while the matter is still in court.

News Express had yesterday reported on the ‘1,000-Man Rally: Walk for Peace and Unity’ which Do It Right Foundation had planned to hold in Abuja as part of its mindset re-orientation drive aimed at sensitising Nigerians on the need to do what is right always.

Speaking with News Express, Dixon Jubril, Founder and Coordinator, Do It Right Nigeria, described the development as an act of God. He however lamented that the Abuja event had to be aborted at the last minute after putting all the structures in place and securing the necessary approvals and the backing of the Ministry of Information as well as that of the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Values.

“Given the development, the awareness campaign had to be put off till further notice. However, our plans at sensitising Nigerians to ‘do it right always’ will not change; all we hope to do is wait till the ban is lifted then fix another date. We call on all Nigerians to remain steadfast towards this cause because that is the only way we can guarantee a better tomorrow for Nigeria,” Jubril told News Express.
