At the 55^thNAACP Image Awards, Nigerian superstar Burna Boy faced a night of unexpected outcomes.

Despite being nominated in five prestigious categories, the artist known as the ˜African Giant did not take home any awards.

Outstanding Male Artist

Outstanding International Song

Outstanding Hip-Hop/Rap Song

Outstanding Duo, Group/Collaboration

Outstanding Album for his latest project, ˜I Told Them

However, the evening saw other talents rise to the occasion. Usher, a veteran in the music industry, won the Outstanding Male Artist of the Year category. The night continued with other artists claiming victories in categories where Burna Boy was nominated.

The NAACP Image Awards, which honours the achievements of people of colour in the arts, had a night filled with celebration for some, but for Burna Boy, it was a reminder of the unpredictability of award seasons.
