Former President Olusegun Obasanjo says that the recent agitations by pro-Biafra groups in Nigeria’s south east is only a cry for recognition and amelioration of economic problems facing the region.
The former President made this remark during his speech in a Forum on the topic ‘Nigeria and the Biafra Agitation.’
Obasanjo said that the issue of Biafra secession is dead and efforts by agitators to resurrect it are signs of frustration that the government at all levels should work to address.
Some of the panelists, however, disagreed with the former President’s beliefs that the issue is a dead one.
One thing the former President and other panelists agreed on was that the government has not done enough about issues leading to such agitations.
The former President advised government to ensure provision of education and employment for youths in the region.
