The Senate has rejected a different version of the 2016 budget submitted to it by Senator Ita Enang, the Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters to President Muhammadu Buhari.
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, emphatically said during today’s plenary: “The Senate will only accept the version of the budget that was earlier submitted by the President himself.”
Controversy has in the past few days surrounded the 2016 budget, with the Presidency denying that it had been surreptitiously withdrawn for amendment and the Senate leadership denying that the document was missing.
Earlier in its closed-door session, the Upper Chamber had discussed the 2016 Appropriation Bill and received reports from relevant committees.
Senator Ali Ndume, Senate Leader, after much uproar on the floor, raised a point of order for the Senate to address an issue of national importance, which is the exchange rate of $1 to 300, but this was moved to the next legislative day by Senate President Saraki.
