Eight injured as crowd disrupts Asake’s London Concert

Eight persons have been reported injured after a crowd disrupted the concert of the Nigerian Afrobeats artiste, Asake, in Brixton, London.

Several fans of the Nigerian singer had arrived at the O2 Academy in South London but were locked outside the venue in freezing weather, provoking some to try to force their way inside.

As thousands of fans tried to force themselves inside the building, eight got injured, leaving four of them in critical conditions.

As the situation got intractable, the organizers called the police due to security reasons. Upon the arrival of the police, they advised the organizers to cancel the show.

A metropolitan police officer, Ade Adelekan, who was called to the scene described the situation as an “upsetting incident.”

He further asserted that the scene will have to be examined and investigations carried out.

He said, “This is an extremely upsetting incident which has left four people critically ill in the hospital. My thoughts and prayers are with them and their families.

“A police investigation has been launched, and it will be as thorough and as forensic as necessary to establish exactly what happened last night.

“The scene will be examined by specialist officers, CCTV will be viewed, every witness that we can make contact with will be spoken to and all other lines of inquiry will be followed.

“Officers are remaining in the area to provide reassurance to the local community in and around Brixton.”

Meanwhile, no arrest has been made yet.

Asake came to the limelight in February. The singer also released his debut album, Mr. Money With The Vibe in September.

This would be Asake’s third sold-out concert in Brixton. (Daily Trust)
