The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, said on Sunday that it had arrested no fewer than 45 vandals in nine months.
The state Commandant, Mr. Gabriel Abafi, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
Abafi said that the command had done a lot in the arrest of vandals and securing government's facilities.
“Every month, we arrest no fewer than five suspected vandals.
“Recently, you are aware of the arrest of some suspects by the command who had fake factories that produce wine for public consumption.”
He added that the suspected vandals arrested were being prosecuted and jailed, if found guilty of the offences.
“We have the three arms of government and when we arrest, we send to those who know and can interpret the law and when the culprits are found guilty, they go to prison.”
He said the prison was a place to learn from and to become a good citizen after serving jail terms.
The commandant said the officers and men of the command were deployed to every nooks and crannies of the state to ensure effective surveillance of facilities in the state.
He also said that the command had mapped out strategies of securing pipelines within the Lagos metropolis, adding that no vandal would be spared.
Abafi advised Nigerians, most especially youths, to find legitimate business to do rather than indulge in illegal acts.
He warned that anyone caught stealing or vandalising government's facilities would face the wrath of the law. (NAN)
