NDC presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi
•Urges Nigerians to resist any move to compromise the credibility of the polls
By BONIFACE AKARAH
The Peter Obi Media Office has accused some state governors of attempting to undermine the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that Nigerians would resist any move to compromise the credibility of the polls.
The office made the allegation in a press statement dated November 3, 2026, signed electronically by its spokesman, Indris Zekeri Jnr.
It alleged that some governors were engaging in covert efforts to manipulate the electoral process rather than present their records of service and achievements to voters.
The media office warned that any process that falls short of free, fair and transparent elections would be rejected by Nigerians.
It said, “The Media Office reminds the governors that, regardless of their fraudulent efforts, they are presenting a poor product, and Nigerians will select the best option available in the market.”
The statement also accused the governors of resorting to electoral manipulation and measures allegedly intended to facilitate rigging instead of relying on their performance in office to seek public support.
“Leadership is a privilege earned through service; it is not a mandate to retain power through deceit, intimidation, or interference with the democratic process,” the office said.
It described the 2027 election as a defining moment for Nigeria, insisting that citizens were determined to use their votes to determine the country's political future.
“The 2027 election will be a defining moment for our nation. Nigerians are resolved to reclaim their country through the power of their votes. Let it be known that no degree of rigging, intimidation, or political manoeuvring can permanently silence the will of the people,” the statement added.
The Obi media office also described the former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate as the preferred choice of Nigerians, citing his competence, capacity, character, compassion and commitment.
“Peter Obi continues to be the people's preferred choice because he embodies the strongest offering in the political arena: a leader defined by competence, capacity, character, compassion, and commitment, capable of raising Nigeria from its current condition and restoring its dignity, prosperity, and hope,” it stated.
The statement did not identify the governors allegedly involved in the reported efforts or provide specific details of the alleged plans.
