Anambra stops daytime cattle movement

The Anambra State Police Command yesterday announced the restriction of the movement of herdsmen in the state as part of measures to ensure peace between herdsmen and farmers in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma, made this known after the joint meeting between the command and herdsmen in the state saying that henceforth cattle would only be allowed movement in the state from about from 8:00 p.m.

He stressed that the essence was to minimise conflict between the herdsmen and native farmers and urged the Fulani cattle herdsmen and host communities to allow peace to reign by cooperating and living harmoniously.

Karma warned that the police command would not spare anybody who tried to foment trouble in the state, adding that the committee had worked hard to minimise conflict between the host community farmers and cattle herdsmen for them to live harmoniously.

He also said that the committee which has amongst them, the State Security Council, representatives of traditional rulers, Presidents-General of town unions and other stakeholders, had since its inauguration on February 23, 2015, worked assiduously with the host communities and cattle herdsmen to ensure peace between them.

In his words, “We must live in peace together. If there is any problem, they should report to the appropriate authority. Nobody is allowed to take laws into his hands.”
