The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel, says he is intensifying efforts to ensure that the people of the state enjoy a steady supply of water and electricity within his 100 days in office.
The governor disclosed this during the 3rd Convocation and 5th Matriculation Ceremony of Uma Ukpai School of Theology and Biblical Studies held at the College Campus in Uyo the Akwa Ibom State Capital.
He assured that electricity supply in the state will improve to enable the people engaging in small scale businesses operate successfully.
He decried the spate of vandalization on electrical installations stressing that the ugly trend will soon be a thing of the past as help lines are being created for members of the public to promptly report cases of vandalization and other difficulties encountered in power supply to the appropriate authority.
On water supply, Governor Emmanuel noted that it would be made available to every part of the State and that taps have been turned on in some part of the state capital. He cited Shelter Afrique axis of the State as area where water problem has been solved.
"We would ensure that constant water supply is provided to every part of the State before our 100 days in office, already we have turn on the taps in shelter Afrique axis, so if you leave in that axis and yours is not working, it then means that your pipes are leaking, we are not only providing these but we ensure that hygiene is taken into consideration to make sure we enhance the lives of the people of the State," he said.
The governor described the event as a double joy to him as the school has attended the feat of matriculating more new students as well as sending out well groomed ambassadors of Christ to preach the gospel.
He commended the Proprietor of the School, Rev. (Dr.) Uma Ukpai for his initiative and quality of graduates produced by the school and charged the graduating students to shine their light as worthy ambassadors of the College.
He added that the state government would include graduates of the school on the Oracle Software Management Training Programme designed to equip youths with necessary ICT Training and make them self reliant.
Earlier the Group Executive Officer of the Institution, Pst. Mrs. Philomena Uma in her welcome speech stated that the School which is affiliated to the renowned Joseph Business School based in Chicago, USA, is designed to produce graduates who will not be a liability to the nation but creators of wealth and employers of labour.
She said that the school has integrated computer training to enable the students adapt to global information technology and be useful to themselves.
In a sermon anchored by Apostle Zilly Agfreey, the man of God who read from 2nd Chronicles 9:1-9 advised the graduands to serve God diligently.
He urged them to put themselves on a local platform in a global view of the outside world by being skill-oriented while engaging on their pastoral duties.
The Speaker of the State House of Assembly Hon. Aniekan Uko, Amb. Sam Edem; Vice-Chancellor University of Uyo Prof. Comfort Ekpo, State Chairman of PDP Obong Paul Ekpo, Hon. Onofiok Luke among other dignitaries witness the colourful event where a total of 107 students graduated while 37 students were matriculated into various programmes of the school.
