Last night’s arrest of former governor of Zamfara State and incumbent Senator, Ahmed Sani Yerima, by the Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Olufemi Adenaike, followed an “order from above,” News Express can reveal.

Yerima had been arrested by CP Adenaike at the studio of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), while a guest of a popular Hausa Language programme, Hannu Dayawa.
Sources say the CP reportedly told Yerima that he was ordered to effect the arrest over an alleged inciting statement during the programme.

Eye witnesses say CP Adenaike patiently waited for the senator to finish the live programme before whisking him away to the state police headquarters. The senator, a key figure in the emergent mega opposition party All Progressive Congress (ACP), had threatened during the programme that the party would march on the country’s capital Abuja if the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) refuses to register it. He was released after questioning.

CP Adenaike later told newsmen Yerima was only invited to the police headquarter to clarify some statementsmade on the registration of the new APC.

“We just invited him to clarify some statements he made during the programme and he made a written statement and was allowed to go,” the state police chief said.
