FG removes adverts, posters from federal roads in Lagos

The Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) has ordered the immediate removal of all posters, sign posts and billboards from all Federal Government-owned roads in Lagos State.

National Coordinator of the task force of the newly established Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme of FERMA (SURE-P FERMA), Alhaji Abdulrazak Rafiu Otto attributed the directive to a recent approval granted the establishment by President Goodluck Jonathan.

President Jonathan directed the agency to take charge of all revenue collections on all advertisements placed on all federal roads in the state on behalf of the federal government. The directive also includes all political posters placed on federal roads in the state.

According to him, plans had been concluded to deploy officials of the task force to man roads and direct traffic in the state and ensure no person places any form of commercial or advert materials on federal government owned roads. Any defaulter, who refuses to remove any advert material or places new one, Otto said, would be made to face the law.

“Failure to heed this advice which takes immediate effect will attract serious consequences,” he said.

The National Coordinator, while speaking at a rally held in Lagos State to sensitize Lagosians on the activities of the SURE-P/FERMA task force, praised President Jonathan for empowering the establishment, which has generated employment for over 20, 000 young graduates.

Otto had, earlier, joined men of the task force in a road trek throughout Lagos metropolis, accompanied by mobile policemen from the Lagos Police command.
